At the final day of this year's JK, Monday April 2nd, Edinburgh University won the JK Trophy and Lakeland won the Women's Trophy.

For old-timers it was a traditional JK Relays - bad weather coming in on Sunday night /Monday morning causing really tough conditions for both the organisation team and the runners.

start Picture: The normal fine display of club colours on runners in the JK Trophy start was rather toned down by the weather .

Fifteen clubs fielded teams in both the main races, including two from overseas: Lillomarka and University College Dublin. The thirteen UK clubs: Mid-Wales (using the neighbouring clubs alliance for the women's trophy race), Edinburgh University, ex-Edinburgh University, Cambridge University, ex-Cambridge University, Sheffield University, Mar OC, Forth Valley, Lakeland, Airienteers, Octavian Droobers, Bristol and South London.

As last year the winning times for both main races were considerably less than that for the men's classic race the day before. The men's winning time was under 80 minutes, the women's race was won in 88 minutes.

duncan-jonny Picture: Eventual winners and runners-up head out for leg 2 of the JK Trophy in 7th and 8th places: Duncan Birtwistle (Octavian Droobers), Jonny Crickmore (Edinburgh University).

In the JK Trophy if Edinburgh University's appearance in the medal places was not a surprise, that their company was Octavian Droobers (10th last year) and Airienteeers (no team last year) might surprise some.

And in the Women's Trophy again that Edinburgh University are in a medal place will be no surprise, but that Lakeland (no team last year) should take the win might surprise some. Note also that third is taken by something of a Welsh representative team, with Mid-Wales and Swansea Bay using the "neighbouring clubs alliance" rule.
