Squad member Ralph Street won a bronze medal with Bækkelagets Sportsklub in the Norwegian Sprint Relay Championship Race in Stavanger yesterday.
The winners were Nydalens SK, with whom Ralph won a bronze last year. After the four legs and an hour's running they finished 20secs ahead of NTNUI, with Bækkelagets SK a further 19 seconds back.
Ralph's teammates were Øystein Kvaal Østerbø, Marthe Gløersen, and Lone Brochmann.
Øystein had won the Norwegian individual sprint championships the day before (which Ralph didn't run - Matt Speake was 16th, and Sasha Chepelin did a fast time in the heats in the guest category.)
Øystein is well-known in Britain having visited to compete many times. He won two silver medals in the World Championships held in Scotland in 2015 - his first WOC medals at his 12th WOC.
On a less chronicled visit to Britain in 2006 he won a loop race put on by Ralph's home club South London Orienteers on the steep slopes of the Nower near Dorking - results.
Lone Brochmann running the last leg for Bækkelagets SK held off last year's winners Halden SK by 2 seconds. It was Halden-based New Zealander Lizzie Ingham running the last leg. If you did not know Lizzie has had surgery relatively recently - she writes on her blog about healing from open heart surgery.
Ralph and Lizzie were not the highest placed runners with English as their first language. The Australian second-year senior Henry McNulty was in the second-placed NTNUI (Trondheim University) team that was anchored by the recent European (EOC) Sprint Relay Champs bronze medallist Sigrid Alexandersen (the Norwegian EOC team also included Øystein.)
The British Sprint Relay Champs are on Saturday 9th June.
